Who I am in a nutshell 🥜
I'm Zoë Jenkins (she/her), a 19-year-old reimagining education and empathy. I have been leading change in education systems since middle school. I am the founder of DICCE, a student at UVA, and a senior advisor at Kentucky Student Voice Team — where I got my start in education advocacy.
While everything in the above blurb is true, here's how I would describe myself so you can really get a sense of my essence:
- I am incredibly optimistic and upbeat — I have a lot of solo dance parties and listen to lots of feel-good music. This also means that serious movies and TV shows make me cry (as in I couldn't get through an episode of Breaking Bad)
- While I may come off as a little polished at first — I am incredibly goofy at heart. As you get to know me, I will become a whole lot sillier. My favorite form of humor are puns.
- I am very go-with-the-flow. I am not a picky person (or eater). But I am particular.
- To steal from my mentor Verta Maloney, I am all love with appropriate doses of rage. I pride myself on being incredibly compassionate, helpful, and sweet, but there is a line that can be crossed and I will be sure to let you know.
- I love R&B, pop, and hip-hop. Special shoutouts to Emily King, Aminé, Lizzo, and Bruno Mars
How I work 💻
- I am my most productive and creative in the morning — so if you want to brainstorm with me or have me read documents, send them before 1 PM ET.
- I have a really high metabolism which means I need lots and lots of snacks throughout the day. Don't mind me if I am eating during a meeting!
- I often have a hard time singularly focusing. Because of this, I tend to listen to music, take excess notes, doodle, or fidget during longer meetings and tasks.
- I am a terrible audible learner meaning that I need to take lots of notes when people talk to me! If you tell me something audibly, you should send it via email/Slack if you want to make sure I remember it
- I generally enjoy working with others, but am a serial perfectionist so sometimes it is easier to split up tasks.
- My phone is super distracting so I tend to leave it flipped over and away from me while I work (so if I don’t always respond quickly that is why).
- I need breaks to eat and move around!
